SUMMARY:Mezcal and Rum Tasting
DESCRIPTION:MWL MEMBER EXCLUSIVE TASTINGS:\nMEZCAL AND RUM\nABOUT NETA \nNETA exclusively commercializes single-batch agave spirits from producers in Miahuatlán and almost entirely from the 110-person village of Logoche. When talking about “single batches” we are referring to lots produced from a single oven or harvest of agave. The process of crafting these batches begins with the harvest of mature en guía or capón plants\, often of various species or types of agave around the time of the full moon\, that are then cooked together in a conical earthen pit. The roasted agave hearts or piñas are then either separated and designated for multiple smaller batches\, or macerated and fermented together in their entirety to make a single batch. In accordance with traditional practices\, the spirits produced from different ovens are not blended\, homogenized\, or standardized to a particular ABV. Each production is unique and bottled at still-strength by members and family members of the co-op and the quantity produced is relative to the number of agave cooked in an oven and their respective yield. \nABOUT ALAMBIQUE SERRANO \nBrothers Isidoro\, Rommel\, William\, and Axel Krassel Peralta continue the work that their grandfather Max started in the 1930s. An immigrant who fled his home country of Germany at the start of WWI\, 16-year-old Max landed on the Gulf coast of Veracruz in 1917. \nWith no knowledge of Spanish\, Max began working any odd job that he could find. He eventually found himself in the mountainous Cañada region of Oaxaca\, where he met and married his wife. It wasn’t long before he began distilling aguardiente on a coffee farm (at that time it was common for the haciendas to distill their own cane). After learning the ropes\, Max set out on his own to begin distilling his own aguardiente\, using a still he designed and built himself. \nABOUT ISAUTIER \nDuring the reign of King Louis Philippe 1st of France\, Louis and Charles Isautier set out from mainland France and sailed across the oceans to move to Réunion Island. Fascinated by the island and its wealth of sugar cane\, they founded the family business in 1845. Now our members and guests will have the opportunity to learn how our collection is categorized\, following along with our handy dandy Spirit Guide. \n  \nMWL Spirit Curator and Education Manager Brett Adams will walk small groups through each section of The Wall\, followed by a spirit trivia game with your group. DESCRIPTION:MWL MEMBER EXCLUSIVE TASTINGS:\nCLONAKILTY IRISH WHISKEY\nClonakilty\, on the south west tip of Ireland. An ancient\, rocky coastline of jagged headlands\, where 3\,000 miles of ocean finally collide with land. Where whales bask offshore and the weather’s so wild\, even the lighthouse keepers gave up.  Here\, the Scully family has been farming this same land for nine successive generations. Taking the considered view that Irish whiskey could be improved\, by harnessing natural elements in a unique and more sustainable way. So they set about doing just that. Sourcing a strain of heritage barley. Growing it themselves\, on land where the salty air\, soft rain and sea mist infuse every grain. Boring deep into the ancient rock formation to draw the purest\, clearest spring water. \nBuilding their own distillery\, to craft the very best of whiskies\, their own way. Using un-malted barley as well as malted. Lengthening the fermentation time\, giving their natural yeast the all the time it needs to enhance the flavour. Triple-distilling the whiskey\, for a lighter\, sweeter spirit. Adding the water slowly and incrementally in way they call ‘gentle cut’. Ageing the liquid in oak casks and exposing those casks to the Atlantic air. Letting the whiskey mature for as long as it takes – even if that means the angels take more than their normal share. \nIt’s a unique story; a whiskey that’s been carefully crafted every step of the way. DESCRIPTION:The Library is thrilled to announce the next installment of our Cocktail Class series\, taking a deep dive into one of the oldest classics in the bar: The Martini.  \n  \nPreviously hosted in 2023\, members and guests will take a journey through the many varieties and find out why a martini is only as good as its vermouth. MWL Education Manager and Spirit Curator Brett Adams will cover the evolution of the cocktail\, tracing the steps from gin to vodka\, shaken and stirred. \n  \nGuests will sample variations with light bites and hors d’oeuvres provided by MWL. After a brief tour through cocktail history\, guests will have the chance to mix up their very own martini\, selecting from a variety of base spirits and vermouths! DESCRIPTION:MWL MEMBER EXCLUSIVE TASTINGS:\nCHICKEN COCK WHISKEY TASTING\nIn 1856\, James A. Miller built a distillery and started making Chicken Cock Whiskey in Paris\, Kentucky. After his death\, Miller left the business to a trusted distillery clerk\, George G. White\, who made Chicken Cock into the legend it became.  Chicken Cock survived hardships\, fire and prohibition before fading into obscurity in the 1950s.  In 2011\, Chicken Cock’s fortunes changed when spirits entrepreneur Matti Anttila discovered the brand in the Oscar Getz Museum while researching the early days of distillation in the U.S. With Chicken Cock simply being a faded memory of the past at that time\, Anttila decided that the Famous Old Brand was worthy of a rebirth. Until the brand could produce its own distillate\, Anttila sourced some of the best aged bourbon he could find that was worthy of the Chicken Cock label. Through vast historical research and the acquiring of the brand’s relics throughout its history\, this was the beginning of the revival of the award-winning brand’s new lease on life. \nToday\, Chicken Cock holds the same standards that founder James A.
