Today\, in Portland\, we have a beautifully diverse community of people with customs and rich heritage that represents these countries. While our innovation is known to occur in maturation and blending\, few understand the diversity of the whisky components that it takes to achieve this depth and gravitas. In 1923\, when Shinjiro Torii built Japan’s first malt distillery in Yamazaki\, he had no one with whom to exchange and broaden his malt repertoire. This tasting provides members a rare opportunity to enjoy these newly added bottles at a discounted rate\, with light hors d’oeuvres to compliment the pours. Please note this event will be an intimate gathering in the Library’s Tasting Room; all seating is communal. \n   \nWhether you are a scotch drinker\, new to mezcal or have been drinking mezcal for years\, this is a unique experience to learn about the rich history\, fascinating process and the complex flavor behind North America’s first liquor. \n \n  \nABOUT MOCEL\n   \nMocel is an artisanal mezcal handcrafted using Michoacan’s traditional wooden still and distillation methods. A time honored method dating back 400 years\, the process is time intensive\, using 100% agave and water without any additives.\n  \nFounded by sisters local to Michoacan\, Rosalinda and Elizabeth Mendoza\, they were inspired by the mountainous region and vibrant culture. The Library is thrilled to welcome Rosalinda for this rare opportunity to share their handcrafted spirits.

DESCRIPTION:Members and their guests are invited to join us for a casual complimentary tasting of Balcones Whiskey with Matt Kesteloot \n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2008\, Balcones was nothing more than an idea driven by a passion to create something original and authentic\, right in the Heart of Texas. It all started in an old welding shop under a bridge in Waco. For the next year\, they replaced the roofing\, knocked out walls\, laid brick\, cut pipes\, installed copper pot stills from Portugal\, and shoehorned a whisky distillery inside that quaint building. Proud of what they had accomplished on their own\, they began distilling in 2009. \nWith an emphasis on ingredients\, the team at Balcones have always meticulously sought out ingredients for their richness in flavor.  From blue corn grown in New Mexico to the first Texas-grown malted barley\, they aim to get the most out of their raw materials.  They make every effort to preserve the luscious flavors of these ingredients in their spirits so that each sip is a decadent expression of their original sate.  Every spirit they make adheres to that philosophy: it should be recognizable and delectable. \nTastes of the following will be available in the Member’s lounge \nBalcones Lineage \nBalcones Texas Single Malt \n\n\n\n\n\nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library. \n
