SUMMARY:Behind The Rails: South Asia
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next installment of our Behind The Rails event series with catering from Chef Deepak Kaul of Bhuna\, music by DJ Anjali\, henna by Palvia Rai\, and special guest MISCGYAN travel & lifestyle influencer \n  \ntickets include a cocktail\, hors d’oeuvres\, all inclusive access \nto provided entertainment\, and gratuity \n  \nABOUT BEHIND THE RAILS\n  \nOn February 21st\, 2022\, we were inspired by MWL Director of Culture Kimiko Matsuda’s vision to bring a new type of event to MWL –a Cocktail Social which became the Behind the Rails series. For that first event\, we reached into our own networks\, the local BIPOC community\, small business leaders\, and our membership\, and we enjoyed an intimate evening of spirited conversation\, story-sharing\, and community building. Fast forward to today\, and the Behind the Rails series continues to excite and delight our members\, guests and team with new insight\, new opportunities\, and new connections. \n  \nThe term “South Asian” evokes both its regional specificity and its inability to be defined by borders. Encompassing people and cultures with roots in Afghanistan\, Bangladesh\, Bhutan\, India\, Nepal\, Pakistan\, Sri Lanka and the Maldives (and within each country tons of distinct languages and cultures)\, the term “South Asian” was introduced in transnational movements in the ’80s. Today\, in Portland\, we have a beautifully diverse community of people with customs and rich heritage that represents these countries. At MWL\, we are interested in learning and sharing stories of cultures from around the world as we grow membership community. \n  \nWe welcome our members and guests to join us\, and our four partner brands\, on September 18th in raising a glass at this next Behind The Rails event. Learn more about our collaborators below!

SUMMARY:SCHOLAR FLIGHT NIGHT: YAMAZAKI TSUKURIWAKE SELECTION 2022 LIMITED EDITION
DESCRIPTION:A guided tasting lead by Suntory West Coast Ambassador Jonathan Armstrong \n  \nFEATURING…\nYAMAZAKI PUNCHEON 2022 EDITION\nYAMAZAKI PEATED MALT 2022 EDITION\nYAMAZAKI SPANISH OAK 2022 EDITION\nYAMAZAKI MINZUNARA 2022 EDITION \n  \nTICKETS INCLUDE… \ntoki highball\, 4 pour limited edition flight\,\n3 course hors d’oeuvre pairings\, & gratuity  \n  \nThe Library is thrilled to announce the next installment of our Scholar Flight Night series\, welcoming House of Suntory West Coast Ambassador Jonathan Armstrong to guided guests on an extremely rare and limited edition Yamazaki Flight: the Tsukuriwake 2022 Selection.  \n  \nFrom its launch in 1984\, Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky was always revered for its complexity and multi-layered nuance. While our innovation is known to occur in maturation and blending\, few understand the diversity of the whisky components that it takes to achieve this depth and gravitas. In 1923\, when Shinjiro Torii built Japan’s first malt distillery in Yamazaki\, he had no one with whom to exchange and broaden his malt repertoire. Being the Founding House of Japanese Whisky\, we had no choice but to build our own. \n  \nToday\, our Tsukuriwake in Yamazaki uniquely prides itself in multiple strengths of non-peated and peated grain varieties\, two types of wash backs\, eight pairs with various shapes of pot stills and maturation in four different oak casks (French\, Spanish\, Japanese and American) with three cask size differences in American Oak. This makes Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky\, a Single Malt quite like no other. \n  \nThis event is a rare opportunity for guests to be guided through the flight by the House of Suntory at an extensively reduced price. Guests will join us in The Tasting Room (located inside the Library) for an intimate gathering and light bite pairings. There are only 6 seats available\, tickets are available to members and their guests on a first come\, first served basis. \n  \nWe hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Bruichladdich & Botanist
DESCRIPTION:Members and their guests are invited to join us for a casual complimentary tasting of Bruichladdich with Remy Martin Market Manager Lana Loriano. \n\n\n\n\n\nSince Bruichladdich’s resurrection in 2001\, their ambitions have gone beyond the simple idea of making and selling single malt scotch whisky. The goal was to be an antidote to the industry norm. \nThey set course to be pioneers\, provocateurs and change makers. Reconnecting the land and the dram\, re-evaluating the prescribed ‘rules’ of the industry\, questioning where flavour comes from and understanding why agricultural ecosystems are important. \nThis was a journey that would go on to inspire an army of distillers and drinkers across the world. \nAs they continue this path\, they discover that the more they learn\, the more they know they need to do. Today\, their commitments to people and the planet grow stronger\, ensuring they use their business as a force for good. \nWith our empowered team\, they pursue this bigger purpose and maintain their mission to create the most thought-provoking spirits they can. As Progressive Hebridean Distillers\, they hope our actions will stimulate other entrepreneurial start-ups to emerge on their island home and further afield\, each one adding richness and diversity\, paving the way for an increasingly dynamic and self-sufficient future. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library. \n

SUMMARY:Maker's Mark and Author Neal Thompson
DESCRIPTION:Members and their guests are invited to join us for a casual complimentary tasting of Maker’s Mark with On-Premise Brand Manager and local Spirits Wizard Jordan Felix.  Special guest Neal Thompson will be here to share some of his favorite book and cocktail pairings! \n\n\n\n\n\nIn partnership with Literary Arts\, MWL is thrilled to be collaborating with author and journalist Neal Thompson. Neal is a journalist and the author of six acclaimed nonfiction books\, including The First Kennedys\, A Curious Man\, Driving with the Devil\, and the memoir Kickflip Boys. A former newspaper reporter\, his work has appeared in New York Times\, the Washington Post\, Esquire\, Outside\, Men’s Health\, Vanity Fair\, the Wall Street Journal and more. He has appeared on NPR\, PBS\, The Daily Show\, CNN\, The History Channel\, Fox and ESPN. \nWith so many accomplishments it is actually Neal’s newsletter\, Blood & Whiskey (sign up on Neal’s website) that caught our interest.  Once a month Neal shares book reviews\, recommendations\, lists and news\, mostly crime stories — mysteries\, thrillers\, noir\, spy capers\, also true crime — plus occasional author Q&As. Also: a cocktail of the month (usually whiskey\, for those so inclined) and a monthly Blood & Whiskey playlist on Spotify. \n\n\n\n\n\nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library. \n

SUMMARY:Balcones Whiskey Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Members and their guests are invited to join us for a casual complimentary tasting of Balcones Whiskey with Matt Kesteloot \n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2008\, Balcones was nothing more than an idea driven by a passion to create something original and authentic\, right in the Heart of Texas. It all started in an old welding shop under a bridge in Waco. For the next year\, they replaced the roofing\, knocked out walls\, laid brick\, cut pipes\, installed copper pot stills from Portugal\, and shoehorned a whisky distillery inside that quaint building. Proud of what they had accomplished on their own\, they began distilling in 2009. \nWith an emphasis on ingredients\, the team at Balcones have always meticulously sought out ingredients for their richness in flavor.  From blue corn grown in New Mexico to the first Texas-grown malted barley\, they aim to get the most out of their raw materials.  They make every effort to preserve the luscious flavors of these ingredients in their spirits so that each sip is a decadent expression of their original sate.  Every spirit they make adheres to that philosophy: it should be recognizable and delectable. \nTastes of the following will be available in the Member’s lounge \nBalcones Lineage \nBalcones Texas Single Malt \n\n\n\n\n\nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library. \n

SUMMARY:Westland Whiskey Tasting
DESCRIPTION:For centuries\, a well-charted tradition in whiskey has established a covenant about how it is made. But there is another\, decidedly American\, tradition to uphold—to challenge accepted conventions with the conviction that there is always more to be discovered. \n\nWestland believes that the world of whiskey is not flat and that it is time to step beyond what we have inherited. We find ourselves at the edge of a new frontier\, but the edge is not the end of what we know\, it is just the beginning of what we have yet to explore. \nThe Outpost Range\, rooted in true provenance\, explores the unknown possibilities left to be pursued in single malt. This new collection of whiskeys includes Garryana\, Colere\, and Solum American Single Malts. Each release marks a new outpost in our ongoing exploration of the vast frontier of whiskey. \n\nMembers and their guests are invited to join us for a casual complimentary tasting of Westland Whiskey with Remy Cointreau Market Manager\, Lana Lauriano. \n\nTastes of the following will be provided \nWestland Flagship\nWestland Solum\nWestland Colere\nWestland Garryana \n\n\nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library.

SUMMARY:Pathfinder Tasting
DESCRIPTION:The Pathfinder Hemp and Root is inspired by the apothecarial mysteries of Old West snake oil salesmen\, alternative medicine\, and the supernatural marvels that go hand-in-hand with them. The resulting liquid is equally wild and enigmatic\, leading our drinkers to new realms of flavor both tangible and surreal. With an eye to the future of drinks and a thirst for progress in booze-free spirits\, Hemp and Root hearkens to a bygone age while raising the standard of flavor and quality in non-alcoholic spirits. \nIt debuted at the bar Life on Mars in the counter-cultural epicenter of Seattle\, the Capitol Hill neighborhood\, in 2021. It soon became a local darling\, and certainly no small affair between the bartenders and shopkeepers in the area\, due to its unrivaled flavor and wondrous versatility in cocktails. Within no time\, this miraculous elixir could be found at leading bars like Zig Zag\, Rob Roy\, Trick Dog\, Death & Company\, and Amor Y Amargo\, and retail sales were fast outpacing production\, which led the New York Post to declare ‘The Pathfinder has become the Pappy Van Winkle of the non-alcoholic drinks world\,’ because of its scarcity and cult following. \nIf good fortune guides you to this extraordinary treasure in the wild\, we implore you to give it a taste and join us on our journey to cocktail enlightenment. May the trails you blaze be fervently delicious. \nMembers and their guests are invited to join us for a casual complimentary tasting of The Pathfinder with Pathfinder Brand Rep Wren Morrow \n  \n\nComplimentary Tastes of Pathfinder will be provided alongside small bites from the Multnomah Whisk{e}y Library kitchen \n\nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library.
