SUMMARY:Chicken Cock Whiskey Tasting
DESCRIPTION:MWL MEMBER EXCLUSIVE TASTINGS:\nCHICKEN COCK WHISKEY TASTING\nIn 1856\, James A. Miller built a distillery and started making Chicken Cock Whiskey in Paris\, Kentucky. After his death\, Miller left the business to a trusted distillery clerk\, George G. White\, who made Chicken Cock into the legend it became.  Chicken Cock survived hardships\, fire and prohibition before fading into obscurity in the 1950s.  In 2011\, Chicken Cock’s fortunes changed when spirits entrepreneur Matti Anttila discovered the brand in the Oscar Getz Museum while researching the early days of distillation in the U.S. With Chicken Cock simply being a faded memory of the past at that time\, Anttila decided that the Famous Old Brand was worthy of a rebirth. Until the brand could produce its own distillate\, Anttila sourced some of the best aged bourbon he could find that was worthy of the Chicken Cock label. Through vast historical research and the acquiring of the brand’s relics throughout its history\, this was the beginning of the revival of the award-winning brand’s new lease on life. \nToday\, Chicken Cock holds the same standards that founder James A. Miller set back in 1856\, producing delicious Kentucky Whiskey \nMembers and their guests are invited to join us for a casual complimentary tasting in the Member’s Lounge. \n\nTastes of the following will be provided \nChicken Cock Bourbon \nChicken Cock Rye \n Chicken Cock Double Oak \nChicken Cock Island Rooster \nChicken Cock Mizunara \n\n\nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \nMembers may bring up to three guests per tasting. \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library.

DESCRIPTION:JUNE 20TH  \n9:00AM – 11:00AM\nJESSICA ELKAN – JAMES BEARD PUBLIC MARKET\n$35\nTickets include entry and a spread of bagels\, fruit\, coffee\, tea and juice \nWe trace James Beard’s roots from Portland’s market stalls to a bold new vision for our city’s culinary future. \nBAGELS NOT BOURBON is where Portland comes to think out loud. \nHosted by The Idea Factory at Multnomah Whiskey Library\, this Friday morning series brings together creative thinkers\, civic leaders\, and cultural changemakers for honest conversations over coffee and bagels. No slides\, no scripts—just bold ideas and the people building what’s next for Portland. \n\nJoin us for a compelling conversation with Jessica Elkan\, Executive Director of the James Beard Public Market\, as we delve into the rich tapestry of Portland’s culinary history and its ongoing evolution. We’ll explore how James Beard’s early experiences in Portland’s bustling markets with his mother ignited a passion that would influence American cuisine profoundly. Jessica will share the nearly two-decade journey to bring the James Beard Public Market to life\, transforming from a visionary idea into a tangible space celebrating Oregon’s diverse food culture. \nExpect insights into the challenges and triumphs of establishing a public market in the heart of Portland\, the significance of honoring Beard’s legacy\, and the market’s role in supporting local producers and fostering community connections. We’ll also uncover some lesser-known facets of this journey\, offering a fresh perspective on what it means to build a culinary institution that reflects both heritage and innovation. \nJessica Elkan is the Executive Director of the James Beard Public Market\, leading the effort to build a seven-days-a-week public market that celebrates Oregon’s agricultural bounty and culinary excellence. Raised in Oregon’s Willamette Valley and growing up in her family’s woodworking business\, she developed a deep appreciation for local artisans\, makers\, and public markets. \nWith more than two decades of experience in nonprofit leadership\, Elkan has launched social purpose enterprises and developed events at the intersection of food and philanthropy to create social impact. She has led initiatives to support underserved communities and has a reputation for strategic vision and civic engagement. Outside of work\, Jessica enjoys exploring public markets around the world and is actively involved in her community promoting all things Oregon.

SUMMARY:Bulleit Bourbon Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Bulleit\, founded in 1987\, is one of the fastest-growing whiskeys in America. The brand attributes that growth to bartenders and cultural partners who have adopted it as their own. SUMMARY:Compass Box Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 2000\, Compass Box is on a mission to make the world of Scotch whisky a more interesting place – exploring undiscovered territories beyond the map. From their Blending Room in Richmond\, London\, they continue to push the boundaries of what whisky can be\, guided by flavour\, not convention. Different to a distiller\, more than a blender\, they are Scotch Whiskymakers. \n‘Whiskymaker’ is a word they invented – because what they do goes beyond tradition. They believe the most remarkable whiskies aren’t stumbled upon; they’re deliberately imagined. They masterfully blend with a balance of curiosity and precision\, challenging assumptions at every step. Where others repeat\, we reinvent – uncovering flavour experiences that surprise and delight. \n  \n\nComplimentary tastes  will be provided alongside small bites from the Multnomah Whisk{e}y Library kitchen \n\nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library.

SUMMARY:Batanga Tequila and Timberline Vodka Tasting
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT BATANGA \nBatanga\, born in the heart of Tequila\, is made using 100% blue Weber agave with traditional\, old-world methods\, that have been used for generations. Our jimadors hand-harvest the agave piñas from the agave fields\, which are then cooked in traditional style masonry brick ovens\, imparting nuances of cinnamon\, clove and other warming spices from the delicate process of caramelizing sugars. The ‘mosto’ released is then fermented and double distilled\, giving Batanga the crisp\, bright finish that has won the hearts of people near and far. \nABOUT TIMBERLINE \nThere’s the upper class\, the creative class\, the middle class\, to name a few\, but there is one class that unites anyone who feels the draw from the energy of the outdoors. It’s called the “Outer Class” and Timberline is the vodka created to serve it. It requires no special skill or endorsements aside from a love of the outdoors. It’s for those who love to put a clear\, perfectly distilled exclamation point on their days doing whatever they do in the rarefied air of the outdoors. \n  \n\nComplimentary tastes  and sample Espresso Martinis* will be provided alongside small bites from the Multnomah Whisk{e}y Library kitchen \n\nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \n*Limited quantities available  on a first-come\, first served basis \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library.

SUMMARY:Bagels Not Bourbon: Stuart Wells
DESCRIPTION:JULY 25TH  \n9:00AM – 11:00AM\nSTUART WELLS – BIRD ALLIANCE OF OREGON\n$35\nTickets include entry and a spread of bagels\, fruit\, coffee\, tea and juice \nWe explore how rewilding an East Portland landfill is reshaping what conservation looks like in the urban core. \n\nJoin us for a conversation with Stuart Wells\, Executive Director of the Bird Alliance of Oregon\, as we explore the organization’s transformative journey from its origins as the Portland Audubon Society to its current role in urban conservation. We’ll delve into the ambitious plans to convert a 12.5-acre former landfill on NE 82nd Avenue into a state-of-the-art wildlife hospital and nature sanctuary\, a project that exemplifies the Alliance’s commitment to ecological restoration and community engagement. \nStuart will share insights into the challenges and opportunities of urban conservation\, the significance of the organization’s recent name change\, and the innovative strategies being employed to create a sustainable and inclusive green space in East Portland. Expect a thought-provoking discussion on how reimagining neglected urban areas can lead to meaningful environmental and social impact. \nStuart has spent decades in leadership roles in the conservation field\, devoting his career to protecting and reestablishing endangered species populations in the wild—from the Cactus Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl to the Black Footed Ferret. Stuart’s career spans the Smithsonian\, U.S Fish and Wildlife Service\, the Phoenix Zoo\, and now Bird Alliance of Oregon. His deep love of conservation\, background as a scientist\, commitment to equity\, and successful leadership experience at large and complex organizations will be instrumental to advancing the mission of Bird Alliance of Oregon. \n\n

SUMMARY:Monkey 47 Gin Tasting
DESCRIPTION:MWL MEMBER EXCLUSIVE TASTINGS:\nMonkey 47\nDoing things by hand is a matter of honour\, which is why Monkey 47 contains only hand-picked ingredients.  A number of them\, including the peel of bitter oranges\, lemons and grapefruits\, have to be fresh off the fruit when added to the macerate prior to distillation.  This requires the helping hands of hard-working locals who are willing to report for duty at seven o’clock every morning.  Following meticulous sensory inspection\, each ingredient is distilled using well-honed artisanal techniques and the softest local spring water before being stored in traditional earthenware vessels for maturation.  The production process is complicated\, comprising a combination of maceration – that is steeping herbal ingredients in a mixture of highly rectified\, molasses-based ethyl alcohol and spring water – as well as distillation\, percolation and oxidation. \nMWL Members and their guests are invited to join us for a casual tasting of Monkey47 Gin\, Martinis* and Gin and Tonics*. \nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \n*Quantities are limited\, available on a first-come first serve basis. \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library.

For one night only\, you’ll be able to sip one of the most artistically blended whiskies to be released by Sazerac with the very person who blended it. A rare evening indeed.  \n  \nTickets include a flight of the complete Prohibition Collection\, in addition to a Weller Full Proof Old Fashioned\, and light hors d’oeuvres. This will be an intimate event hosted in The Green Room\, with just 20 seats available to experience history in a glass. It won’t be one to miss!

SUMMARY:Mezcal Vago Tasting
DESCRIPTION:MWL MEMBER EXCLUSIVE TASTINGS:\nMEZCAL VAGO\nThe journey into the extraordinary begins in the remote mountains of Southern Oaxaca\, venturing approximately 3 hours in each of 4 different directions from Oaxaca City. The drives\, although long and bumpy\, take you through winding roads and lush valleys\, crossing over rivers and through small towns. Each of these roads has its own adventure with unique flora and fauna influencing its terroir. \nIt is here where they seek out small-batch mezcaleros\, who for generations have been perfecting their craft – a craft that is steeped in local cultural traditions\, both artisanal and ancestral in nature. Together\, four maestros mezcaleros and their families are the soul of Mezcal Vago\, for family is at the heart of everything they do. \nMembers and their guests are invited to join us for a casual complimentary tasting of Mezcal Vago alongside small bites from the Multnomah Whisk{e}y Library kitchen \nMWL Member Walk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \nMembers may bring up to three guests per tasting. \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library.
