SUMMARY:Monkey 47 Gin Tasting
DESCRIPTION:MWL MEMBER EXCLUSIVE TASTINGS:\nMonkey 47\nDoing things by hand is a matter of honour\, which is why Monkey 47 contains only hand-picked ingredients.  A number of them\, including the peel of bitter oranges\, lemons and grapefruits\, have to be fresh off the fruit when added to the macerate prior to distillation.  This requires the helping hands of hard-working locals who are willing to report for duty at seven o’clock every morning.  Following meticulous sensory inspection\, each ingredient is distilled using well-honed artisanal techniques and the softest local spring water before being stored in traditional earthenware vessels for maturation.  The production process is complicated\, comprising a combination of maceration – that is steeping herbal ingredients in a mixture of highly rectified\, molasses-based ethyl alcohol and spring water – as well as distillation\, percolation and oxidation. \nMWL Members and their guests are invited to join us for a casual tasting of Monkey47 Gin\, Martinis* and Gin and Tonics*. \nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \n*Quantities are limited\, available on a first-come first serve basis. \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library.

DESCRIPTION:The Library is honored to welcome Sazerac Master Blender and Director of Quality Drew Mayville for a once in a lifetime guided tasting of the Prohibition Collection.  \n  \nTake a journey through the history\, flavor\, and craftsmanship of Buffalo Trace with one of the most respected figures in American whiskey. Mayville’s decades of blending expertise and deep storytelling will illuminate the legacy of Buffalo Trace and the remarkable character of this limited release collection. \n  \nCrafted in tribute to the resilience of whiskey during the Prohibition era\, only three sets of the Prohibition Collection were allocated to the state of Oregon. This will be the only opportunity to taste the collection at MWL\, as every last drop will be served at the event.  \n  \nTo mark the occasion\, we will be offering half pours of Weller Millennium at break even pricing ($225 for .75oz). For one night only\, you’ll be able to sip one of the most artistically blended whiskies to be released by Sazerac with the very person who blended it. A rare evening indeed.  \n  \nTickets include a flight of the complete Prohibition Collection\, in addition to a Weller Full Proof Old Fashioned\, and light hors d’oeuvres. It all started in an old welding shop under a bridge in Waco. For the next year\, they replaced the roofing\, knocked out walls\, laid brick\, cut pipes\, installed copper pot stills from Portugal\, and shoehorned a whisky distillery inside that quaint building. Tevis\, Associate Professor of Adult and Higher Education at Oregon State University and Director of the Difference\, Power and Oppression Program\, and Bridget Jones\, Dean of Enrollment Management and acting Director of Admissions and Recruitment at Portland Community College.  Together\, they’ll explore how education shapes not just students\, but entire communities.  At a time when Portland is actively reimagining its future\, Tenisha and Bridget will highlight how inclusive curriculum\, equitable access\, and cultural storytelling can strengthen pathways to belonging\, justice\, and civic renewal.  Their perspectives – rooted in both community college and university settings – invite us to see education not only as preparation for the workforce\, but as a civic necessity for a thriving city. \nExpect reflections on the power of education to weave itself into Portland’s cultural fabric\, the opportunities and tensions in building more inclusive systems\, and why the classrooms of today hold lessons for the city we’re trying to create tomorrow.  Both Tenisha and Bridget’s work focuses on equity in education and the power of inclusive curriculum to reflect the full breadth of our histories.  Together\, we’ll discuss how educational systems – and the narratives they elevate – can be tools for building a more connected\, creative\, and culturally vibrant Portland. \nWe hope you will join us. \nTickets include admission to the event as well as a spread of fresh fruit\, bagels & accompaniments\, coffee\, tea and juice. \n

The Bulleit Frontier Whiskey portfolio is distilled and aged in the Bulleit family tradition\, using a distinctive high rye recipe\, which gives them a bold\, spicy\, yet distinctively smooth taste. The award-winning Kentucky whiskey most recently won a Double Gold medal for Bulleit 10 Year Old and Gold Medals for Bulleit Bourbon and Bulleit Rye at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. \nIn 2017\, Bulleit celebrated its 30th anniversary with the opening of a new\, state-of-the-art distillery in Shelbyville\, KY\, constructed with a focus on sustainable practices including natural habitat protection\, water conservation and local ingredient sourcing. In an effort to provide this experience for more of our members\, this event is re-occurring\, revisiting content from previous installments. \n  \nWith over 2\,500 bottles on The Wall (and even more tucked away in cabinets\, corners\, and basements) our team has designed a specific home for each and every spirit. Now our members and guests will have the opportunity to learn how our collection is categorized\, sorted\, and curated.  \n  \nMWL Spirit Curator and Education Manager Brett Adams will lead guests through a guided tasting of several unique spirits to capture each category on our spirit wall. After the tasting\, guests will team up in small groups to play a round of Spirit Jeopardy\, vying for fun prizes and gift cards!   \n  \nLight hors d’oeuvres will be provided by MWL\, in addition to a welcome cocktail.
