SUMMARY:Bagels Not Bourbon: Tyler Malek and Nico Niebes
DESCRIPTION:AUGUST 22ND  \n9:00AM – 11:00AM\nTYLER MALEK – SALT & STRAW\nNICO NIEBES – EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR\, URBAN GLEANERS\n$35\nTickets include entry and a spread of bagels\, fruit\, coffee\, tea and juice \nWe unpack how creativity\, community\, and generosity can build food systems that nourish far beyond the plate.. \nBAGELS NOT BOURBON is where Portland comes to think out loud. \nHosted by The Idea Factory at Multnomah Whiskey Library\, this Friday morning series brings together creative thinkers\, civic leaders\, and cultural changemakers for honest conversations over coffee and bagels. No slides\, no scripts—just bold ideas and the people building what’s next for Portland. \n\nJoin us for a candid conversation with Tyler Malek\, co-founder and head ice cream innovator at Salt & Straw\, and Nico Niebes\, Executive Director of Urban Gleaners\, as we explore the evolving relationship between creativity\, commerce\, and community in Portland’s food scene. \nTogether\, Tyler and Nico will unpack what it means to take bold creative risks in business—and how purpose can be baked into the very DNA of a brand or nonprofit. From flavors that tell stories to food rescue systems that fight hunger with dignity\, this discussion will shine a light on the often invisible structures that make great community partnerships possible. \nExpect reflections on the rewards and tensions of building something meaningful\, how generosity scales (or doesn’t)\, and why the future of food depends on more than just taste—it depends on values. \n\nTickets include admission to the event as well as a spread of fresh fruit\, bagels & accompaniments\, coffee\, tea and juice. \n

SUMMARY:Westland Whiskey Tasting
DESCRIPTION:MWL MEMBER EXCLUSIVE TASTINGS:\nWESTLAND WHISKEY\nFor centuries\, a well-charted tradition in whiskey has established a covenant about how it is made. But there is another\, decidedly American\, tradition to uphold—to challenge accepted conventions with the conviction that there is always more to be discovered. \n\nWestland believes that the world of whiskey is not flat and that it is time to step beyond what we have inherited. We find ourselves at the edge of a new frontier\, but the edge is not the end of what we know\, it is just the beginning of what we have yet to explore. \nThe Outpost Range\, rooted in true provenance\, explores the unknown possibilities left to be pursued in single malt. This new collection of whiskeys includes Garryana\, Colere\, and Solum American Single Malts. Each release marks a new outpost in our ongoing exploration of the vast frontier of whiskey. \n\nMembers and their guests are invited to join us for a casual complimentary tasting of Westland Whiskey with Remy Cointreau Market Manager\, Lana Lauriano. \n\nTastes of the following will be provided \nWestland Flagship\nWestland Solum\nWestland Colere\nWestland Garryana \n\n\nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \n  \nMembers may bring up to three guests per tasting. \n  \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library.

SUMMARY:Balcones Whiskey Tasting
DESCRIPTION:MWL MEMBER EXCLUSIVE TASTINGS:\nBALCONES\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2008\, Balcones was nothing more than an idea driven by a passion to create something original and authentic\, right in the Heart of Texas. It all started in an old welding shop under a bridge in Waco. For the next year\, they replaced the roofing\, knocked out walls\, laid brick\, cut pipes\, installed copper pot stills from Portugal\, and shoehorned a whisky distillery inside that quaint building. Proud of what they had accomplished on their own\, they began distilling in 2009. \nWith an emphasis on ingredients\, the team at Balcones have always meticulously sought out ingredients for their richness in flavor.  From blue corn grown in New Mexico to the first Texas-grown malted barley\, they aim to get the most out of their raw materials.  They make every effort to preserve the luscious flavors of these ingredients in their spirits so that each sip is a decadent expression of their original sate.  Every spirit they make adheres to that philosophy: it should be recognizable and delectable. \nTastes of the following will be available in the Member’s lounge \nBalcones Lineage \nBalcones Texas Single Malt \n\n\n\n\n\nWalk-ins welcome and RSVP appreciated! \nMembers may bring up to three guests per tasting. \nAttendees must be accompanied by a member of Multnomah Whiskey Library. \n

SUMMARY:Bagels Not Bourbon: Dr. Tenisha L. Tevis and Bridget Jones
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED\n9:00AM – 11:00AM\nDR. TENISHA L. TEVIS\nBRIDGET JONES \n$35\nFrom Classrooms to City Blocks\, Dr. Tenisha L. Tevis and Bridget Jones explore how inclusive education can shape not just students\, but the future fabric of Portland. \nJoin Kimiko Matsuda for a candid conversation with Dr. Tenisha L. Tevis\, Associate Professor of Adult and Higher Education at Oregon State University and Director of the Difference\, Power and Oppression Program\, and Bridget Jones\, Dean of Enrollment Management and acting Director of Admissions and Recruitment at Portland Community College.  Together\, they’ll explore how education shapes not just students\, but entire communities.  At a time when Portland is actively reimagining its future\, Tenisha and Bridget will highlight how inclusive curriculum\, equitable access\, and cultural storytelling can strengthen pathways to belonging\, justice\, and civic renewal.  Their perspectives – rooted in both community college and university settings – invite us to see education not only as preparation for the workforce\, but as a civic necessity for a thriving city. \nExpect reflections on the power of education to weave itself into Portland’s cultural fabric\, the opportunities and tensions in building more inclusive systems\, and why the classrooms of today hold lessons for the city we’re trying to create tomorrow.  Both Tenisha and Bridget’s work focuses on equity in education and the power of inclusive curriculum to reflect the full breadth of our histories.  Together\, we’ll discuss how educational systems – and the narratives they elevate – can be tools for building a more connected\, creative\, and culturally vibrant Portland. \nWe hope you will join us. \nTickets include admission to the event as well as a spread of fresh fruit\, bagels & accompaniments\, coffee\, tea and juice. \n
