SUMMARY:Day of Service with Friends of Trees
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Trees (FOT) is a local non-profit taking action against climate change through natural restoration and planting. They have planted more the 870\,000 trees and native shrubs across six counties and two states\, engaging community members for over 30 years. “Whether it’s growing the urban canopy through planting street and yard trees\, or restoring sensitive natural areas through planting native trees and shrubs\, there is no doubt that the trees planted by Friends of Trees play a vital role our region’s livability.” \n  \nIn support of their cause\, the Library and Noble Oak are thrilled to invite our members to join us at the Columbia Slough Natural Area Stewardship in Northeast Portland. To help maintain the natural environment\, we will be mulching hundreds of native trees and shrubs planted earlier this Winter\, followed by weeding invasive species. \n  \nTo celebrate a hard day’s work\, we invite all our volunteers to join us back at The Green Room for a cocktail hour provided by Noble Oak to enjoy one complimentary cocktail and light hors d’oeuvres. You can follow along with Noble Oak’s mission to plant a tree for every bottle sold by following the link here! \n  \nAdditional information will be provided to volunteers 1 week before hand. \n  \nWe can’t wait to volunteer with you!

Of those 100 bottles\, 20 made it to the United States\, a handful arrived on the West Coast\, and one has been welcomed at the Multnomah Whiskey Library. \nThe story of Shinjiro Torii\, whose portrait hangs on the wall in the Multnomah Whisk{e}y Library\, and the building of the Yamazaki distillery 100 years ago in a misty valley between Mt.Tennozan and Mt. Otokoyama\, where three pristine rivers converge\, captures the imagination like none other. \nWhen we heard about this bottle\, and that one of the component whiskies was distilled under Shinjiro Torii himself\, we knew that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to taste a bit of whisky lore. Now\, we’ve decided to open and share this bottle with our members and friends right here in Portland at a weekend-long special event. \nWe are excited and honored to be celebrating this symbol of outstanding craftsmanship and history with the Portland Japanese Garden whose belief in the power of cultural exchange and in the excellence of craft has inspired peace and connection within our community for decades.
