Following in 2007\, Meehan opened James Beard Award-winning bar PDT\, and a second branch in Hong Kong a decade later. Meehan moved to Portland\, Oregon ten years ago\, where he designed the bar and beverage program at Takibi when it opened in 2020. For the past eleven years\, Meehan has served as mixologist for American Express’s Centurion airport lounges worldwide. \n  \nWe are honored to host him in honor of his newest release The Bartender’s Pantry: A Beverage Handbook for the Universal Bar. This tasting kit box set offers eight Hampden rum variants and contains information on the eight different raw material and process combinations which produced them\, as well as certain significant chemical analysis data examined by means of gas chromatography. It is thus a one-of-a-kind tasting tool offering the chance to gain a full understanding of the incredible diversity of the eight marks of this great Jamaican rum and what makes each one so different from all the others\, within the distillery’s expressive range\, all the way from the light and aromatic OWH to the heavy and intense DOK. Each rum is bottled unaged\, at 60% abv. \n  \nThis rare guided tasting will take place in the Library’s Tasting Room for just 6 guests per seating – so tickets will go fast! DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to announce the next installment of our Kitchen Takeover series\, welcoming Chef Diego Palacios\, co-founder & owner of local pop-up Machetes. \n  \nThe Mexico City street-style food pop first began in the summer of 2023\, with a string of pop ups selling out all across the city. Run by husband-and-wife team Diego and McKenna Palacios\, Machetes is best known for its massive oblong quesadillas made with heirloom corn masa — their tie-dye appearance is reminiscent of a summer camp T-shirt. McKenna usually leads the masa shaping process before handing the uncooked tortillas to Diego to fill and grill. \n  \nThe duo are both industry vets\, with Diego currently presiding at OK Omens and McKenna at Indonesian restaurant Gado Gado. In October 2024 Machetes began their residency at OK Omens\, serving up antojitos\, ceviche\, handmade Choco Tacos\, and more every Sunday and Monday through the winter. MWL is honored to share their cuisine with you\, curating beverage pairings for each course.  \n  \nPlease note all food and beverages are pre-fixe\, we politely decline substitutions or alterations to the menu. DESCRIPTION:Tickets include a welcome cocktail\, 5 pour flight\, multi-course dinner\, & gratuity \n  \nTHE FLIGHT\nWeller CYPB\nWeller 12 year\nWeller Antique 107\nWeller Full Proof\nWeller Millennium \n  \nThe Library is thrilled to announce the next installment of our Scholar Flight Night\, serving a multi-course dinner with an incredibly unique bottle from Buffalo Trace distillery: Weller Millennium.  \n  \nAs the third oldest operating distillery in the world\, with roots dating back to 1773\, Buffalo Trace Distillery (as it’s known today) has been honing its craft since Kentucky was a wild\, untamed frontier and the United States was just an idea. In the centuries that followed\, the Distillery changed hands numerous times\, but one thing always remained constant; it was a homeplace for the creation of authentic American whiskey. \n  \nAt the turn of the millennium\, the Distillery was amid a period of transformation once again and looked to its forebearers for inspiration. As a trailblazer in the industry\, the distillation team chose to pay homage to W.L. Weller by setting aside some of the first whiskeys distilled in the new millennium for the sole purpose of creating this extraordinary innovation. \n  \nA blend of vintage straight bourbon and wheat whiskeys distilled in 2000\, 2003\, 2005 and 2006\, Weller Millennium highlights the impact that wheat has on the whiskey’s flavor: the softness imparted by the wheat creates a smoother\, sweeter\, more approachable expression. By marrying these exceptional spirits together\, the whiskeys further harmonize with each other\, creating a cohesive\, balanced final product that is greater than the sum of its parts. \n  \nThis rare Bourbon will be accompanied by four additional pours from Weller: CYPB\, 12 year\, Antique 107\, and Full Proof. MWL Executive Chef Bill Wallender will be curating a pre-fixe\, multi-course dinner to pair with the flight. This tasting provides members an opportunity to enjoy these bottles at a discounted rate\, complimented by light hors d’oeuvres prepared by MWL. Please note this event will be an intimate gathering in the Library’s Tasting Room; all seating is communal. \n   \nWhether you are a scotch drinker\, new to mezcal\, or have been drinking mezcal for years\, this is a unique experience to learn about the rich history\, fascinating process and the complex flavor behind North America’s first liquor. \n \n  \nABOUT MOCEL\n   \nMocel is an artisanal mezcal handcrafted using Michoacan’s traditional wooden still and distillation methods. Previously hosted in 2022 and 2024\, members and guests will take a journey through the storied history of this classic cocktail and find out why it’s stood the test of time. \n  \nMWL Education Manager and Spirit Curator Brett Adams will break down the structure and proportions of a Manhattan\, as well as riffs and varieties that have branched out from the original recipe.
