SUMMARY:Weller Millennium Scholar Flight Night
DESCRIPTION:Tickets include a welcome cocktail\, 5 pour flight\, multi-course dinner\, & gratuity \n  \nTHE FLIGHT\nWeller CYPB\nWeller 12 year\nWeller Antique 107\nWeller Full Proof\nWeller Millennium \n  \nThe Library is thrilled to announce the next installment of our Scholar Flight Night\, serving a multi-course dinner with an incredibly unique bottle from Buffalo Trace distillery: Weller Millennium. \n  \nAs the third oldest operating distillery in the world\, with roots dating back to 1773\, Buffalo Trace Distillery (as it’s known today) has been honing its craft since Kentucky was a wild\, untamed frontier and the United States was just an idea. In the centuries that followed\, the Distillery changed hands numerous times\, but one thing always remained constant; it was a homeplace for the creation of authentic American whiskey. \n  \nAt the turn of the millennium\, the Distillery was amid a period of transformation once again and looked to its forebearers for inspiration. As a trailblazer in the industry\, the distillation team chose to pay homage to W.L. Weller by setting aside some of the first whiskeys distilled in the new millennium for the sole purpose of creating this extraordinary innovation. \n  \nA blend of vintage straight bourbon and wheat whiskeys distilled in 2000\, 2003\, 2005 and 2006\, Weller Millennium highlights the impact that wheat has on the whiskey’s flavor: the softness imparted by the wheat creates a smoother\, sweeter\, more approachable expression. By marrying these exceptional spirits together\, the whiskeys further harmonize with each other\, creating a cohesive\, balanced final product that is greater than the sum of its parts. \n  \nThis rare Bourbon will be accompanied by four additional pours from Weller: CYPB\, 12 year\, Antique 107\, and Full Proof. MWL Executive Chef Bill Wallender will be curating a pre-fixe\, multi-course dinner to pair with the flight. We will accommodate dietary restrictions to the best of our ability. \n  \nPlease email our events manager of any dietary restrictions by February 24th at events@mwlpdx.com. Please note any restrictions or seating preferences written in your ticket form are not recorded. We hope to see you there! \n  \nTICKETS AVAILABLE FEBRUARY 6th AT 6:00PM \n  \nMWL MEMBER TICKET: $500\nNON-MEMBER TICKET: $600\nMEMBERS MUST BE LOGGED INTO ACCOUNT TO RECEIVE DISCOUNT

SUMMARY:Bagels Not Bourbon: Jessica Elkan
DESCRIPTION:JUNE 20TH  \n9:00AM – 11:00AM\nJESSICA ELKAN – JAMES BEARD PUBLIC MARKET\n$35\nTickets include entry and a spread of bagels\, fruit\, coffee\, tea and juice \nWe trace James Beard’s roots from Portland’s market stalls to a bold new vision for our city’s culinary future. \nBAGELS NOT BOURBON is where Portland comes to think out loud. \nHosted by The Idea Factory at Multnomah Whiskey Library\, this Friday morning series brings together creative thinkers\, civic leaders\, and cultural changemakers for honest conversations over coffee and bagels. No slides\, no scripts—just bold ideas and the people building what’s next for Portland. \n\nJoin us for a compelling conversation with Jessica Elkan\, Executive Director of the James Beard Public Market\, as we delve into the rich tapestry of Portland’s culinary history and its ongoing evolution. We’ll explore how James Beard’s early experiences in Portland’s bustling markets with his mother ignited a passion that would influence American cuisine profoundly. Jessica will share the nearly two-decade journey to bring the James Beard Public Market to life\, transforming from a visionary idea into a tangible space celebrating Oregon’s diverse food culture. \nExpect insights into the challenges and triumphs of establishing a public market in the heart of Portland\, the significance of honoring Beard’s legacy\, and the market’s role in supporting local producers and fostering community connections. We’ll also uncover some lesser-known facets of this journey\, offering a fresh perspective on what it means to build a culinary institution that reflects both heritage and innovation. \nJessica Elkan is the Executive Director of the James Beard Public Market\, leading the effort to build a seven-days-a-week public market that celebrates Oregon’s agricultural bounty and culinary excellence. Raised in Oregon’s Willamette Valley and growing up in her family’s woodworking business\, she developed a deep appreciation for local artisans\, makers\, and public markets. \nWith more than two decades of experience in nonprofit leadership\, Elkan has launched social purpose enterprises and developed events at the intersection of food and philanthropy to create social impact. She has led initiatives to support underserved communities and has a reputation for strategic vision and civic engagement. Outside of work\, Jessica enjoys exploring public markets around the world and is actively involved in her community promoting all things Oregon.
