Our Study Hall event series was created for our members to convene with our resident experts to share the history, distillation techniques, and flavor profiles that adorn our walls. For this next installment, MWL is thrilled to partner with accoladed Scottish distilleries, Highland Park and The Macallan, exploring the tried and true marriage of sherry and Scotch.
This tasting will take us on a journey through two distilleries, each distinct in style, but unified in their celebration of sherry casks. The Macallan has built a reputation as one of the world’s leading whiskies, famous for their signature sherried style, and propelling single-malts into fashion. Highland Park, nestled in the storm-lashed Orkney islands, produces Scotch with smoked barley and over 4,000 year old peat, known for several powerful sherried expressions. As guests taste through this hand selected flight, we will explore how sherry is made and it’s important role in Scotch production.
Tickets include a six pour flight, The Macallan Double Oak 12 Year welcome cocktail, light hors d’oeuvres, and gratuity. Edrington Regional Manager Matt Holtgreve will return to the Library in conjunction with MWL Spirit Curator and Education Manager Brett Adams to share the storied history, rich distillation process, and the influence of their famous sherry casks. This will be a rare opportunity for guests to taste The Macallan Art is the Flower next to 4 spectacular expressions, a $250 value at a fraction of the price.
Due to the nature of the event, seating is pre-assigned and communal. Requests made in advance will be accommodated to the best of our ability. We hope to see you there!
