We are pleased to announce the next installment of our Study Hall event series, inviting guests to join us in the Library’s Tasting Room for an intimate, in-depth guide to peated whisky. Featuring six different distilleries, MWL Spirit Curator & Education Manager Brett Adams will dive into what peat is, where it comes from, and how it imparts its signature smokey flavor. Here’s a summary of the class from Brett Adams…
The world of peated whisky can sometimes get painted with a broad brush. The admittedly polarizing flavor is often reduced to a line in the sand that you stand on one side of, and this is a shame for both the whisky and the whisky drinker. The goal of this class is to shine some light on the broader spectrum of peat in scotch, highlighting its use as one of many tools that distillers have to add complexity to their whisky. We’ll try a flight of whiskies that show how peat affects and is affected by different ages, barrel finishes, and textures. While this class isn’t guaranteed to convert any skeptics of smoke, for those of us already convinced of peat’s purpose, it will add depth and dimension to the way you appreciate it.
Tickets include a welcome cocktail, six pour flight, light hors d’oeuvres, and gratuity. Please note this will be an intimate hosted in the Tasting Room, all seating will be communal.
We look forward to hosting you!
